France has a new prime minister

France has a new prime minister. President Emmanuel Macron has appointed Sebastien Le Corneille, the French minister of the armed forces, to the post.

The new head of government has been tasked with holding consultations with parliamentary parties, including on next year’s budget, to reach important decisions for the coming months.

Macron had earlier accepted the resignation of François Bayrou.

On September 8, the National Assembly voted 364 to 194 in favor of Bayrou’s cabinet, rejecting his austerity policies aimed at reducing the national debt.
