Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said in an interview with ABC News that the summit between the US and Russian presidents in Alaska provided Vladimir Putin with the result he was waiting for.
"It's a pity that Ukraine was not present at that meeting, because I think Trump gave Putin what he wanted. Putin's greatest desire was to meet with the US president, and he got it. It's very sad," Zelensky said.
According to him, Putin is avoiding a meeting with him, but is seeking contact with the US leader. Zelensky stressed that Putin is offering conditions for a meeting that he cannot accept, and added that he is "playing games" with Washington.
When asked if Putin would welcome him to Moscow, Zelensky replied with a smile: "Let him come to Kyiv. I cannot go to Moscow when my country is under missile attacks every day."
As for his vision of Ukraine's victory, the president noted that it is, first of all, the country's survival: "Putin's goal is the occupation of Ukraine. He wants to conquer us completely. That will be a victory for him. And until he achieves that, the victory is ours. For us, survival is precisely the victory, because we continue to live, preserving our identity, country, and independence," Zelensky said.
