The European Commission will undergo reform

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen is launching a major overhaul of the agency to make it more efficient. Politico reports that a reform plan will be presented by early 2026, which will overhaul administrative processes, reduce complexity, and promote collaboration.

The European Commission currently employs around 32,000 people, and is considering merging some departments. The results will be published by the end of 2026.

Meanwhile, the EU's new budget proposal proposes a significant increase in spending, from €1.21 trillion to €1.81 trillion for the period 2028-2034. A large cut is planned for agricultural subsidies, and the main investments will be directed to innovation, "green" and digital technologies, as well as the reconstruction of Ukraine, for which it is planned to allocate 100 billion euros.
