A senior Israeli military official said on Wednesday that the planned offensive on Gaza City could lead to the displacement of up to one million Palestinians. Israel intends to create a new “humanitarian zone” for them.
According to UN estimates, the one million people include almost the entire population of Gaza City (the capital of the strip) and its surroundings.
Israel is preparing to take complete control of the city, arguing that it is home to Hamas’ main bases.
It is noted that in recent days, there has been an active movement of Palestinians from the northern regions of Gaza. So far, about 70,000 people have left these areas.
