Earlier, the Russians insisted on complete control over four regions. Now they have abandoned this, limiting themselves to maintaining the line of contact, except for one place, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said in an interview with Turkish media.
“The Russians demand full control over the Donetsk region and are ready to remain on the line of contact in the Zaporizhia and Kherson regions,” he said, noting that this is a preliminary agreement.
Fidan said that the issue of peace in the Russian-Ukrainian war was discussed with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio during a recent telephone conversation. The Turkish Foreign Minister also spoke with the US President’s Special Representative, Steve Witkoff, and the Secretary of the OSCE Minsk Group, Rustem Umerov.
“Taking all this into account, we can conclude that we are optimistic about peace. We have sufficient grounds for this optimism,” Fidan emphasized.
