Azerbaijani media reported that Ilham Aliyev received the EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus, Magdalena Grono.
Magdalena Grono greeted the EU leadership and congratulated them on the significant results achieved in Washington on the normalization of relations with Armenia and the peace agenda.
She emphasized that this process has contributed significantly to ensuring sustainable peace in the region. She stated that the EU member states also support the peace achieved between Azerbaijan and Armenia. Magdalena Grono also noted that the European Union is ready to support implementing the issues agreed between the two countries, including the transport corridor.
Aliyev, in turn, noted the historical significance of the results achieved in Washington and especially emphasized the role of the United States in this process. According to him, the Washington Declaration signed with the US mediation, the initialing of the peace agreement, and the joint application of Azerbaijan and Armenia on the dissolution of the Minsk Group are important steps in the peace process.
The meeting noted that Azerbaijan supports bilateral confidence-building measures with Armenia. It emphasized the importance of establishing unhindered transport and transit communication between the central part of Azerbaijan and Nakhichevan and broad opportunities for cooperation with the European Union, especially in modernizing Nakhichevan's transport infrastructure.
