Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev has touched upon the possibility of internal political changes and the processes that will follow the amendments to the Armenian constitution.
“I hope that nothing will hinder the process. However, I do not have 100 percent guarantees, as I am not well-versed in Armenia’s internal politics. We know that next summer, they will hold parliamentary elections and are working on a new draft constitution. However, if there is strong external interference, we can assume that something may violate the agreed-upon terms, but it would be very detrimental to Armenia itself. Because, regardless of who signed the documents in Washington, they were signed on behalf of Armenia by the Armenian leader. If something happens with the amendments, and they backtrack on what was signed, it will seriously worsen relations between Armenia and the United States. And not only the United States, but also the international community supported this process: Europe supported, Turkey, Arab countries supported, that is, the entire international community,” he emphasized.
According to Aliyev, what was signed in Washington is a guarantee of peace and sustainable development for Armenia.
“So, I am trying to say that if any future government of Armenia, regardless of when it comes to power, questions what was signed in Washington, Armenia will face serious difficulties, because the balance of power in the region is absolutely in our favor from all perspectives,” he added.
