Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmail Baghaei, responding to the question of why negotiations with the US are not starting, given Europe's weak position, stated: "Iran has repeatedly held negotiations with the US and has always shown its readiness to advance the diplomatic process, sparing no effort. Iran was preparing for the sixth round of negotiations in Muscat, and all previous rounds were held with mutual consent. Unfortunately, just two days before the scheduled date of the negotiations, the US rejected the diplomatic path, disrupting the process. Therefore, no one can accuse Iran of avoiding negotiations."
Underlining Iran's commitment to participating in the negotiations, Baghaei noted, "We have clearly shown our readiness over the past 2-3 months. Iran has never left the negotiating table. We are currently holding a dialogue with Europe as well, because Europe is ready for negotiations."
Baghaei also added: "Iran has always shown good faith and will continue to do so. We do not want to be accused of avoiding negotiations. The events of the last 3-4 months reveal which side participated in the negotiations in good faith and which hindered their progress by constantly changing positions and criticizing. When the other side was unable to protect its interests through diplomacy, it resorted to the use of force through illegal and unilateral actions, which is in no way acceptable."
