Journalists and medical workers killed in hospital attacks

At least 20 people, including journalists and medical staff, were killed in a double Israeli strike on Nasser Hospital in Khan Younis, southern Gaza.

Israel described the incident as “tragic.” Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel “deeply regrets” the incident, stressing that the military was “conducting a thorough investigation.”

According to medical staff at Nasser Hospital, the first strike occurred at around 10 am local time. At least one person was killed at the time. A second strike, which came minutes later, hit rescue workers and journalists who had arrived at the scene, causing mass panic.

“There was mass panic… complete chaos,” a British medic who was at the hospital at the time and was treating patients in the intensive care unit told the BBC. He said a second explosion occurred about 10 minutes later, as staff were preparing to evacuate the building.

Five of the journalists killed in the strike worked for international media outlets, including the Associated Press, Reuters, Al Jazeera, and Middle East Eye.

The Israel Defense Forces confirmed that it had struck near Nasser Hospital in southern Gaza.
