The negotiations between Russia and the United States on Ukraine, which began immediately after Donald Trump's victory in the elections and culminated during President Vladimir Putin's visit to Anchorage, have reached an impasse.
The dialogue broke down after a statement by Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov, who rejected Western security guarantees for Ukraine, Bloomberg reported, citing European officials and diplomats familiar with the situation.
According to the agency's sources, the Kremlin may now try to convince the United States that the plans agreed with the Europeans and Ukrainians should be abandoned, and the Putin-Zelensky meeting should be replaced with continued talks at the level of officials at a lower level.
Bloomberg writes that senior European officials and diplomats consider Lavrov's statements an attempt to delay the negotiations and do not believe Putin is ready for a real deal.
