The Trump administration plans to screen more than 55 million foreigners with valid U.S. visas for potential violations that could lead to visa invalidation or deportation.
The U.S. State Department said in a written response to The Associated Press that all U.S. visa holders are under "continuous review" for potential grounds that could invalidate their visas.
If violations are found, the visa will be invalidated, and the holder, if in the United States, will be subject to deportation.
The department explained that factors such as overstaying, criminal activity, threats to public safety, involvement in terrorist activities, or support for terrorist organizations are being checked.
"We review all available data within our monitoring framework, including law enforcement and immigration records or any other information that may emerge after the issuance of a visa and indicate its possible invalidity," the State Department said in a statement.
