The Russians made concessions almost immediately during the first meeting in Alaska. This was stated by the US President’s special envoy Steve Witkoff in an interview with Fox News.

“The Russians made concessions almost immediately during the first meeting in Alaska. These concessions partly helped us understand whether the Russians were ready to be more concessionary,” he said.

Witkoff added that during the meeting in Anchorage, Trump and his team were focused on a long-term peace agreement, not a temporary ceasefire.

“We stayed there for quite a long time, because we made progress on how we can achieve a peace agreement. At this meeting in Alaska, the president understood that we have a lot of prerequisites for a peace agreement, so why not make a peace agreement at all?” he added.
