If Kiev abandons neutrality, the grounds for recognizing independence disappear. Lavrov

The grounds for recognizing Ukraine’s independence will disappear if the country renounces its neutrality and non-nuclear status, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said.

In an interview with the Rossiya 24 TV channel, he recalled that the Declaration of National Sovereignty clearly states the non-nuclear, neutral, and non-aligned status of the Ukrainian state.

“It was this commitment that served as the basis for the international recognition of Ukraine as an independent state. If now the Zelensky regime renounces all these characteristics, talks about nuclear weapons, NATO membership, and renunciation of neutrality, then the provisions that served as the basis for recognizing Ukraine as an independent state will disappear,” the minister noted.
