After the meeting in Washington, French President Emmanuel Macron gave an exclusive interview to the TF1-LCI television channel, where he spoke about the Putin-Zelensky meeting.
According to the president, one of the main points of the meeting in Washington was that Vladimir Putin, who had a telephone conversation with Donald Trump during the summit, announced his readiness to meet with Vladimir Zelensky in the next two weeks.
It should be noted that this will be the first meeting since the Russian invasion on February 24, 2022.
"We have decided to hold a bilateral meeting between the two presidents, then a trilateral (with Donald Trump - ed.), and then a multilateral meeting, where the Europeans must be present at the negotiating table," said Emmanuel Macron.
According to him, such a meeting could take place in Europe.
"It's more than a hypothesis, it's a collective will," he said, assuring that it would be organized not in France, as in the 2019 meeting between Zelensky and Putin, but in a neutral country.
"It's possible in Switzerland, I'm in favor of Geneva," he emphasized.
