Joint statement of EU leaders following the Putin-Trump meeting

The leaders of five EU countries - France, Italy, Germany, Finland, and Poland - as well as the Prime Minister of the United Kingdom, issued a joint statement after the meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and US President Donald Trump in Alaska.

The statement states that Europe is ready to cooperate with the White House and Ukrainian President Zelensky to prepare a trilateral summit between Russia, the United States, and Ukraine.

It is noted that Kiev must receive "unwavering security guarantees" and make its own decisions on the territory.

The statement also says that the EU welcomed Trump's efforts to stop the bloodshed and establish peace.

In addition, it says that the EU will continue to strengthen pressure on Moscow through sanctions.
