Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić said in his blog that the country had experienced a difficult evening, and only thanks to the wisdom, patience, and courage of the police and citizens was it possible to maintain peace and avoid disaster.
He stressed that the police had withstood the blows and attacks, and accused the protesters of attacking the office of a political party they did not like.
According to him, the state is strong enough not to allow destabilization. "There will be no civil war in Serbia, just as there will be no mercy for hooligans and bandits," he said in a message to the nation from the "Serbia" palace.
