Former Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Elmar Mammadyarov spoke to a local news outlet about the process of establishing diplomatic relations with Armenia in the future and his role in it.
“It would be good if the ambassador appointed to Armenia knew Armenian and was familiar with the peculiarities of that people. He does not have to be a diplomat; someone from outside can be appointed. The important thing is that he understands and knows the peculiarities of the Armenian people,” he said.
He noted that before appointing an ambassador, it is necessary to sign a special document on establishing diplomatic relations. After that, we can discuss who the ambassador will be and how many employees will be in the embassy.
When asked about working as an ambassador in Yerevan, Mammadyarov replied: “As they deem necessary.”
