Trump and Putin will have a closed-door meeting with only the two presidents and translators present

The American and Russian sides are preparing for the meeting between Donald Trump and Vladimir Putin on Friday, which will take place at the Elmendorf-Richardson military base in Alaska. According to CNN, this place was chosen due to security requirements.

The organization of the summit was complicated by the fact that summer is the high tourist season in Alaska. The choice was made on the military base in Anchorage.

What the parties will discuss

Despite this high-level meeting, the agenda and expected results are not yet precise. According to the official assessment of the White House, the summit will be an opportunity to “listen to each other”. Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized that Trump wants to assess Putin and personally hear his positions before concluding.

During the preparation for the summit, American and Russian diplomats discussed “some preparatory issues”, but it is not known what agreements are expected. European sources say Putin has offered some terms for peace, but the details remain unclear.

After the summit, Trump promised to talk with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky immediately. However, Zelensky will not be in Alaska, and the option of a trilateral meeting has been dropped from the agenda.

It is also known that part of the summit is planned to be held in a closed format, with only the two presidents and translators in attendance, which has been a feature of previous Trump-Putin meetings.

At the same time, Putin had telephone conversations with his close international partners before the summit, including North Korean leader Kim Jong-un, who has met Trump several times before.
