Israel is not seeking to occupy Gaza with an expanded military operation but rather to liberate it from Hamas, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said.
“We are seeking to maintain a rapid timetable for military operations in Gaza. The plan to capture Gaza City is the ‘fastest’ way to end the war. We will do this by first allowing civilians to safely leave the combat zones to designated safe zones, where they will be provided with sufficient food, water, and medical care, as we have done in the past,” he said, noting that he does not want to prolong the war; he wants to end it.
