Thailand and Cambodia agree to deploy ASEAN observers

Representatives of the defense ministries of Thailand and Cambodia have concluded talks in the Malaysian capital Kuala Lumpur, as a result of which the parties agreed to allow the presence of ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations) observers in the border area to monitor the implementation of the ceasefire.

According to the agreement, Malaysia will take the lead in the observation mission, and the observers will work on the contact line between the two sides to ensure that the recently signed ceasefire is being observed in practice.

Representatives of the United States and China also participated in the negotiations as observers. New, more in-depth talks aimed at establishing a lasting peace are expected to begin in the coming weeks.
