Moscow says Israeli troops did not intervene when settlers attacked a Russian diplomatic vehicle in the West Bank. The car, which had diplomatic license plates, was damaged near Giv’at Assaf, an illegal Israeli settlement.
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday that Moscow considered the attack “a flagrant violation of the 1961 Vienna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.” She expressed dismay and disagreement that the attack was carried out with the consent of Israeli soldiers. The Russian embassy has sent an official note to the Israeli authorities.
Russia’s UN ambassador, Dmitry Polyansky, has reported the incident to the Security Council, criticizing Israel’s policy and warning of the risk of war in the Middle East.
