US President Donald Trump said on Sunday that his special envoy, Steve Witkoff, is planning to travel to Russia on Wednesday or Thursday.
"Maybe next week, Wednesday or Thursday, he'll go to Russia. They want to see him. They've asked for a meeting, so we'll see what happens," Trump said.
Trump also reiterated his intention to impose sanctions on Russia if it doesn't agree to a ceasefire in Ukraine by a deadline.
At the same time, he stressed that Russia can circumvent sanctions: "The Russians know very well how to circumvent sanctions."
