North Koreans are left without K-pop. South Korean authorities have begun dismantling loudspeakers that broadcast modern music, news, and propaganda.
The loudspeakers were installed along the entire demilitarized zone. South Korea broadcast songs and news that were critical of Kim Jong-un. In response, the DPRK turned on the sounds of metal grinding.
In early June, after the inauguration of President Lee Jae-myung in South Korea, the loudspeakers were silenced. After that, North Korea also stopped responding.
On August 4, South Korea's Ministry of National Defense announced the complete dismantling of the loudspeakers, explaining that it was aimed at reducing tensions.
