Lebanese President Calls on Hezbollah to Hand Over Weapons to Army

Lebanese President Joseph Aoun has once again called on Hezbollah to lay down its weapons and hand them over to the national army.

In his speech on Army Day, Aoun said that under pressure from Washington, Lebanon had presented its proposals with several changes.

According to the Lebanese proposal, there would be an “immediate cessation of Israeli military operations” in Lebanon, a complete withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, and the release of Lebanese prisoners held in Israel. In return, Lebanon would disarm all armed groups, including Hezbollah, and hand over their weapons to the army.

This statement came after Hezbollah leader Naim Qassem said the day before that the movement’s weapons were “the power of Lebanon,” and handing them over would mean handing them over to Israel.
