Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov received Syrian Foreign Minister Asad al-Shaibani, who is on a visit to Moscow.
“We are closely following the ongoing transitional processes in Syria. We sincerely hope that the Syrian people, with whom we have long-standing friendly relations, will withstand the challenges and fully resolve the situation,” Sergey Lavrov said.
The Syrian Foreign Minister also noted that the current period is full of various challenges and threats, but it is also an opportunity to build a united, strong Syria. “And, of course, we are interested in Russia being with us on this path,” he said.
Lavrov, through the minister, sent an invitation to the Syrian President to participate in the first Russia-League of Arab States summit.
It should be noted that the summit will take place on October 15.
Earlier, AFP reported that the Syrian Foreign Minister will arrive in Baku on July 31, where he will meet with Israeli Minister of Strategic Affairs Ron Dermer.
The main issue that the parties are going to discuss in the Azerbaijani capital concerns the issue of security, especially in southern Syria.
