Canada joins the initiative to recognize Palestine

Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney has announced that Canada is preparing to recognize the state of Palestine in September, becoming the third G7 country to announce such a decision in recent days.

Carney stressed that this step is conditional on democratic reforms in the Palestinian Authority and the holding of elections in 2026 without the participation of Hamas.

It should be noted that Britain and France announced similar plans a day and a week before this announcement, respectively.

The Israeli Foreign Ministry condemned Canada's decision, considering it a "reward for Hamas."

Carney noted that this decision is based on Israel's expansion of new settlements in the West Bank, the deepening humanitarian disaster in Gaza, and the Hamas attack on October 7, 2023.

"The human suffering in Gaza is unbearable and is getting worse every day," Carney said.
