Kazakhstan has half of the minerals essential to US national security

The nominee for US Ambassador to Kazakhstan, Julie Staft, stated that almost half of the minerals considered necessary for the US economy and national security are located on the territory of Kazakhstan.

She stated this during a hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. During the hearing, Senator Steve Daines from Montana noted that Kazakhstan is rich in natural resources that are important for the US and global economy, such as uranium, lithium, copper, zinc, and rare earth elements. In this regard, the senator asked Julie Staft how, if her candidacy is confirmed, she can contribute to attracting American investment in Kazakhstan.

“Kazakhstan is important to us not only as a business partner, but also in the field of valuable minerals. It is not just a matter of trade policy; it is a matter of national security. My task is to create conditions for American companies to invest in Kazakhstan in this area,” Julie Staft replied.

It is reported that Julie Staft’s nomination for the post of US Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Kazakhstan has been sent to the Senate.

Julie Staft previously worked at US embassies in Moldova, Djibouti, Russia, Ethiopia, and Poland. She also held the position of Executive Director for Visa Services and a leadership position on the US National Security Council.
