The supply of Azerbaijani natural gas to Syria via the Kilis pipeline passing through Turkey will begin on August 1 this year. Turkish media reported this.
"The new energy pipeline, which is considered an important step in the reconstruction of Syria, is scheduled to be put into operation on August 1. Natural gas from Azerbaijan will be delivered to Syria via the Kilis pipeline through Turkey. This project aims to contribute to the restoration of Syria's damaged electrical infrastructure and strengthen Turkey's goal of becoming a regional energy center," the statement said.
It is noted that, according to a recently signed document between SOCAR and Syria, preparatory work for the transportation of natural gas has been completed. In the first stage, it is planned to send 1.2 billion cubic meters of natural gas to Syria annually. The gas will pass through the city of Kilis on the Turkish border and reach the power plants in Aleppo and Homs, where it will be used to generate electricity. This will result in a production capacity of approximately 1200-1300 megawatts.
