Ukraine imports Azerbaijani gas via the Trans-Balkan route for the first time

Ukrainian company Naftogaz Group has signed its first agreement with SOCAR Energy Ukraine, a part of the SOCAR group, to purchase Azerbaijani natural gas, according to the Naftogaz Group website.

For the first time, a pilot batch of gas is being supplied via the Trans-Balkan Bulgaria-Romania-Ukraine route.

“This is a small but strategically important step that paves the way for long-term cooperation. This is also another example of diversifying supply sources and strengthening Ukraine’s energy security,” commented the company’s CEO, Sergey Koretsky.
