Amazonia has lost almost a fifth of its tropical forests

Levon Azizyan, director of the Center for Hydrometeorology and Monitoring SNCO, writes on his Facebook page:

Between 2001 and 2023, the Brazilian Amazon lost nearly a fifth of its tropical forests, approximately 689,000 square kilometers, which is larger than the area of the French Republic.

Now it is planned to build a major highway through the heart of the Amazon. This is devastating for both biodiversity and the global climate.”
