A powerful 7.3-magnitude earthquake struck off the coast of Alaska, the US Geological Survey (USGS) said.
The quake's epicenter was about 87 km (54 miles) from the city of Sand Point at a depth of about 20.1 km (12.5 miles).
After the quake, authorities issued a tsunami warning for southern Alaska and the peninsula, but it was later canceled.
A maximum wave height of 6.1 m (20 feet) was recorded at Sand Point. However, the center advised residents in the affected area to be aware of the threat.
