European budget airline Wizz Air has announced that it will exit the Abu Dhabi market and focus on its core market of Central and Eastern Europe. The company cited the ongoing instability in the Middle East over the past two years, airspace closures, and a decline in passenger traffic as reasons.
Wizz Air CEO Jozsef Varadi said the airline was returning to its “core market” of eastern Europe. He said that the hot climate in Abu Dhabi had led to rapid engine wear, and that unauthorized flights from Abu Dhabi to India and Pakistan had limited the company’s growth opportunities.
Wizz Air will stop its domestic flights from Abu Dhabi in September this year.
