Protesters in Brazil burn an effigy of Trump against new tariffs

A violent protest against a 50% tariff on Brazilian goods took place in São Paulo. Demonstrators took to the streets, chanting “Respect Brazil” and “Brazil is ours.”

The irony is that the demonstration was initially intended for a completely different reason. The protesters initially sought to show support for the government’s proposal to impose a tax on high-income citizens. Still, an error occurred, and they began to protest against the imposition of tariffs on Brazilian goods.

All this happened after Trump wrote a letter to Lula in which he condemned the “witch hunt” against his predecessor, Bolsonaro, and simultaneously announced new trade restrictions. The letter has further exacerbated the growing public hostility between the leaders of the two countries.
