The European Court of Human Rights has, for the first time, held Russia directly responsible for the 2014 crash of a Malaysian Boeing over the Donbass region.
The court found that Moscow controlled the militants in eastern Ukraine, carried out a disinformation campaign, and deliberately obstructed the investigation.
The court noted the restrictions on access to the crash site, obstacles to the repatriation of the bodies of the victims, and pressure on witnesses.
The judges are due to rule on a total of four cases brought by Ukraine and the Netherlands against Russia, but the decisions are expected to be largely symbolic in nature.
Recall that in 2022, a Dutch court found Girkin, Dubinsky, Pulatov, and Kharchenko guilty of the plane crash.
It should be noted that the Boeing 777 flying from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur was shot down on July 17, 2014. All 298 passengers and crew were killed, including 196 Dutch citizens.
