Cracks have begun to appear in the relationship between French President Emmanuel Macron and British Prime Minister Keir Starmer, which threatens to split the “coalition of the willing” supporting Ukraine in the war, writes Politico.
The magazine notes that the main reason for the “cracks” in the relationship between the two leaders is relations with the United States.
It is noted that London and Paris have so far closely coordinated their actions in an attempt to keep Donald Trump in peace talks on the Ukraine issue. However, as progress has stalled, British and French officials have increasingly expressed indignation at how the other side has treated the US president.
In particular, it is believed that Macron is unhappy with the agreement reached between Starmer and Trump to ease US tariffs on British goods, while France remains under EU sanctions.
