The US ambassador to Georgia has said that the unofficial letter from the leadership of the Georgian Dream party to President Donald Trump was “threatening, offensive, frivolous, and received very negatively in Washington.”
Ambassador Robin Dunnigan also said that he wanted to meet with Bidzina Ivanishvili in person because he had a message from Secretary of State Rubio. According to him, it was Rubio who asked him to deliver the response to Ivanishvili personally, but the latter refused to meet.
Dunnigan, who is leaving Georgia in July, stressed that getting Georgian-American relations back on track “is not that difficult,” and the first step should be to “stop the anti-American rhetoric.”
