The third President of Georgia, Mikheil Saakashvili, stated that by arresting Russian billionaire Samvel Karapetyan, Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan managed to do what he failed to do during his time in power.
“After the unsuccessful war, Pashinyan did in Armenia what I did not do in 2011-2012: he arrested the Armenian ‘Ivanishvili,’” Saakashvili wrote on his Facebook page, referring to the situation when billionaire Bidzina Ivanishvili, who had made a fortune in Russia, entered politics with his “Georgian Dream” party, removing Saakashvili’s party from power.
According to Saakashvili, the processes taking place in the South Caucasus are a direct result of Russia’s weakening in Ukraine.
“Pashinyan has officially taken the course of EU membership. Baku has begun cooperation with NATO, Azerbaijan considers Russia a direct threat, and is taking active steps to cleanse its political, economic, and cultural territory of Russian influence. In addition, the rapprochement between Azerbaijan and Armenia has begun, which is the most serious blow for Russia,” the former Georgian president emphasized.
In this situation, according to Saakashvili, Georgia, where Ivanishvili and his gang have finally been disgraced, appears to be a complete anomaly. He noted the deficit of leaders in the country and called on the critics of the “Georgian Dream” to self-organize. “Geopolitical processes will help us a lot, but we cannot waste time.”
