China and the European Union should not be viewed as adversaries due to their differences; instead, they should strive to avoid confrontation. This was stated by Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi during a meeting with EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs Kaja Kallas in Brussels yesterday.
Kallas noted that Beijing should stop threatening European security, citing cyberattacks, interference in democratic processes, and unfair trade practices.
In response, Wang Yi stated that Europe faces several challenges, none of which have been created by China in the past, present, or future.
“The path chosen by the United States should not be used as a reflection of China. China is not the United States,” Wang Yi noted.
The parties also discussed several international issues, including Ukraine, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict, and Iran’s nuclear program, according to a statement from the Chinese Foreign Ministry.
Wang Yi is now expected to visit Germany and then France, where he will meet with European and Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot.
These visits precede the EU-China summit in Beijing, which Chinese President Xi Jinping and several senior European officials will attend.
