London plans to buy new F-35A fighters

The UK government is planning to acquire 12 new F-35A fighter jets that can carry nuclear weapons and join NATO’s air-to-air atomic mission.

Downing Street has said the move is “the most significant boost to the UK’s nuclear capability in a generation.”

The jets will be capable of carrying both conventional and US-made tactical nuclear weapons.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer will announce the decision at a NATO summit in the Netherlands.
