The United States reached out to Iran diplomatically before the strikes to say it was only planning strikes and was not seeking regime change in Tehran, CBS reported, citing sources.
“The United States contacted Iran on Saturday to say that the strikes were the entire plan of the United States and that no attempt at regime change was planned,” the channel said in a statement.
Earlier, US President Donald Trump announced the successful operation of the US military against three Iranian nuclear facilities in Natanz, Fordow, and Isfahan. The president said that after the US strikes, Tehran must agree to “end this war.”
Fars news agency, citing Iranian authorities, confirmed that airstrikes hit the Isfahan and Fordow nuclear facilities.
