French President Emmanuel Macron spoke with Iranian President Massoud Pezeshkian on the telephone. Macron reported this on his microblog X.
Macron said that he had reiterated his demand to release French civil society activists Cecile Coler and Jacques Paris, who are being held in Iran, calling their detention unjust and inhumane.
He expressed his concern about Iran’s nuclear program, stressing that Iran should never have nuclear weapons.
“Iran should never have nuclear weapons, and it must give all guarantees that its intentions are peaceful,” Macron wrote.
According to the French president, finding a way out of the war and avoiding more serious dangers is still possible.
“To achieve this, we will accelerate the negotiations launched by France and its European partners with Iran,” Macron noted.
