EU Foreign Ministers to Meet with Araghchi

The foreign ministers of the United Kingdom, France, and Germany and the head of the European Union’s foreign policy service will meet Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi in Geneva today.

If the meeting takes place, it will be the first high-level talks between Europeans and Tehran since Israel launched strikes on Iran on June 13.

The European ministers will try to persuade Iran to resume talks on its nuclear program.

French Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot said the goal of the talks was “to get Iran to abandon its nuclear program and ballistic missile program.”

British Foreign Secretary David Lemmy wrote on social media: “It is time to end the dark events in the Middle East and prevent an escalation in the region that will benefit no one.”

On Thursday, David Lemmy met with US Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio and Special Envoy Steve Witkoff at the White House.

After the meeting, Lemmy and Rubio reiterated their shared belief that Iran should not have nuclear weapons.
