US President Donald Trump has said that the ongoing conflict between Israel and Iran is escalating rapidly. He said he would return to Washington a day early from the Group of Seven (G7) summit in Canada to monitor developments.
“I need to get back to you as soon as possible. I need to get back to you as soon as possible for obvious reasons,” the president said.
Trump was initially scheduled to stay in Canada until late Tuesday night, but by Monday afternoon, it became clear that his attention was elsewhere.
“Iran is at the table now, and they want to make a deal. And as soon as I leave here, we will take action,” Trump said after meeting with G7 leaders at the Kananaskis resort.
A few hours later, Trump wrote on social media, addressing the Iranians: “Everybody should evacuate Tehran immediately.”
In addition, President Trump has called an emergency meeting of the US National Security Council to discuss the situation in the Middle East. According to American newspapers, he has instructed US diplomats to organize a meeting with Iranian representatives immediately.
