French President Emmanuel Macron has criticized Donald Trump for threatening to annex Greenland.
“I don’t think allies should do that,” Macron said as he visited the autonomous Danish territory on his way to a G7 summit in Canada.
“It is important that Denmark and the Europeans commit to supporting this territory, where the strategic challenges are enormous and whose territorial integrity must be respected,” Macron said.
According to his office, Macron’s six-hour visit was a signal visit made at the request of Denmark and Greenland. The visit began with a meeting aboard a Danish warship with Danish Prime Minister Mette Frederiksen and Greenlandic Prime Minister Jens-Fredrik Nielsen.
