"We are not involved." US Secretary of State on Israel's strike on Iran

US Secretary of State and National Security Advisor Marco Rubio has addressed Israel's strike on Iran. He said the US knew the impending action but was not involved.

"We were not involved in the strikes against Iran, and our highest priority is the security of our regional forces," Rubio said in a statement. "Israel has informed us that this action was necessary for them in self-defense."

Rubio issued a stern warning to Iran a day after ordering the withdrawal of some US diplomatic personnel from the Middle East. "Let me be clear: Iran must not target US interests or personnel," he said.

Hours before the strikes, Trump had called for a diplomatic solution while also saying that a strike against Iran "could happen very soon."
