Polish Prime Minister Donald Tusk has said he will hold a confidence vote on his government, aiming to shore up his fragile coalition after its defeat in the presidential election.
In his first public speech since Sunday’s election results were announced, Tusk vowed that the government would act immediately and present several legislative initiatives to restore the government’s momentum.
Congratulations to right-wing opposition candidate Karol Nawrocki on his victory. Tusk said the government had a “backup plan” and vowed that it would “not stop working for a moment” by redoubling its efforts to pass legislation.
The prime minister added: “I want everyone, including our opponents both at home and abroad, to see that we are fully aware of the seriousness of the situation, but we are not going to back down.” He said he would appeal to parliament to confirm his government’s majority.
