The United Kingdom intends to increase the number of nuclear submarines in its fleet in the coming years. The country's Ministry of Defense published a statement on this yesterday.
It states that London plans to build up to 12 new-generation submarines. They will work on nuclear engines but will carry conventional, non-nuclear weapons. From the end of the 2030s, these submarines are expected to replace the seven currently operating in the British submarine fleet.
It is reported that they will ensure the security of Britain and NATO in the coming decades.
The new submarines will be developed by the United Kingdom, the United States, and Australia as part of the AUKUS security partnership program.
