A senior Hamas official told the BBC that the Palestinian militant group will reject the latest US proposal for a ceasefire and a new agreement on the release of hostages in Gaza.
The White House said on Thursday that Israel had approved the plan proposed by US Ambassador Steve Witkoff and that an official response from Hamas was now awaited.
Al Jazeera reported that the Trump administration’s ceasefire proposal to Israel was “still under discussion” with Hamas. However, the source said that the proposal in its current form would only lead to the “continuation of killings and starvation” in Gaza.
According to Reuters, the US proposal calls for a 60-day truce and the return of 28 Israeli hostages, both dead and alive, within the first week. In return, the Israeli side will return the bodies of 125 Palestinian life prisoners and 180 Palestinians who died.
The Netanyahu government has already accepted this proposal.
