Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky met with Germany's new Chancellor, Friedrich Merz, in Berlin, hoping to secure additional military support for Ukraine amid a recent escalation of Russian missile strikes. AP news reports.
Germany is the second-largest supplier of military aid to Ukraine after the United States. Friedrich Merz took office three weeks ago and has been actively pursuing diplomatic efforts to broker a ceasefire and maintain Western support. European leaders have accused Russian President Vladimir Putin of stalling U.S.-led peace talks.
German Foreign Minister Johann Waddepfühl was scheduled to meet U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio in Washington on Wednesday.
Zelensky said Tuesday that Ukraine was ready for high-level peace talks, including a trilateral meeting between him, Putin, and U.S. President Donald Trump.
