The absolute risk of armed conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan remains, and the United States is trying to prevent it. This was stated by US Secretary of State, Acting Assistant to the President for National Security Affairs Marco Rubio.
“About Azerbaijan, our main goal is to ensure peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia. There is a real risk of conflict there, which we are trying to prevent,” he said during a House Foreign Affairs Committee hearing.
According to Rubio, Washington is “trying to prevent armed intervention” and is also engaged in issues related to prisoners and human rights in Azerbaijan.
“The truth is that we are dealing with countries that in many cases do not have a perfect model, but we must act based on our national interests; we must balance all of that - our national interests and diplomacy,” the US Secretary of State said.
